SPELLING PRACTICE · AVAILABLE NOW
Cody Spell
Cody Spell provides structured practice for children who find spelling challenging. Parents and teachers select the words, and children work through them using audio, phonics support, typing or handwriting.
Used with adult oversight, Cody Spell helps identify where a child needs further practice and provides hints, practical tips and memory strategies to support the next attempt.
- Hear each word and an example sentence.
- Explore sounds, graphemes and spelling patterns.
- Practise using the keyboard or handwriting.
- Review completed work and identify words for further practice.
FOR TEACHERS AND SENCOS
Targeted spelling practice
for the classroom.
Create or select spelling lists, assign them to a class or group, and review completion, scores and word-level results.
INFORMED BY EXPERIENCE
Cody began with a practical need.
Cody began as a way to support our own children with spelling and reading. As parents of children with dyslexia, we saw how difficulties with decoding words for reading and encoding words for writing could affect confidence, independence and engagement with learning. We created Cody to provide practical, accessible support that children can use with increasing independence.
Informed by literacy research
Cody is advised by Professor Jenny Thomson, University of Sheffield.
Jenny is a Professor and Speech and Language Therapist whose research focuses on language and literacy difficulties, including developmental dyslexia and digital literacies. Her expertise helps inform our thinking as we develop Cody to support children who find reading and spelling difficult.
